About ACV

Mission Statement

Alaska Conservation Voters works to protect Alaska's environment through public education and advocacy, and supports pro-conservation candidates for public office.

Alaskan Stewardship

A recent statewide poll (7/06 by Fairbanks, Maslin and Associates) indicates that 79% of Alaskans consider themselves to be conservationists and 73% of Alaskans believe that we have a moral responsibility to protect our land, water and wildlife.  ACV has been working since 1997 to protect our quality of life by safeguarding Alaska ’s land, air and water through the election of pro-conservation candidates and the promotion of pro-conservation laws. ACV works to promote the fact that a sound economy goes hand-in-hand with a sound environment and that it is possible to achieve a balance between development and conservation. Alaska Conservation Voters supports the construction and operation of the natural gas pipeline that is in the best interest of Alaskans.

Alaska Conservation Voters is a non-partisan, Alaska-based conservation organization that supports Republican as well as Democratic pro-conservation candidates.  ACV is supported by more then 1,000 members and 1,500 supporters throughout the state of Alaska and is directed by a board of committed, knowledgeable Alaskans. ACV’s executive director, Kate Troll, was formerly the Executive Director of United Fishermen of Alaska.

As the political arm of Alaska's conservation movement, ACV is the primary Alaska organization working to elect pro-conservation candidates.

We're also the eyes and ears of the conservation community in Juneau. During legislative sessions, our full-time advocacy staff in Juneau:

  • Educate legislators on conservation issues
  • Organize concerned Alaskans at the grassroots level and urge them to contact their legislators and tell them what they think
  • Testify in public hearings
  • Endorse and promote pro-conservation candidates
  • Mobilize conservation voters where their ballots make a critical difference
  • Help to put initiatives on the ballot so voters can enact pro-conservation laws themselves
  • Educate voters about the activities of the legislature
  • Publish an annual legislative scorecard
  • Focus grassroots activists on winnable, proactive issues during the legislative session
  • Work with legislators to promote pro-conservation measures
  • Show Alaskans how a sustainable Alaska economy can go hand in hand with a healthy environment
