NEWS: HB 19 signed by Governor Murkowski! The Right to Know law will take effect on January 1, 2006.
HB 19, the Pesticide Right to Know Law, is a breath of fresh air for those of us who try to limit our exposure to toxins in places we live, work and play. Sponsored by Anchorage Rep. Kevin Meyer, this new law will require on-site notification for pesticide applications in government buildings, common areas of apartment buildings, parks, plazas, and public sports fields. HB 19 will also charge chemical manufacturers a reasonable fee to cover program costs. Currently Alaska is the only state which does not require a fee to register pesticides.
