| Dear Senator Seekins,
I am one of your constituents and I must respectfully state that I oppose
your bill SB 85, which repeals the 5 mile corridor on the Dalton
Hwy. Approval of the construction of this highway was made with the
buffer against ATV use. Your bill would break a commitment that was made
with good reason at that time. I submit that those reasons, as well as the
need to not reduce the security of the adjacent pipeline through increased
convenient access, is good enough to continue that commitment.
I can also conceive of some negative consequences to research conducted by
the University of Alaska Fairbanks at the Toolik Research. Since you are
also a senator representing UAF, have you talked with them about the impact
of this bill?
Please rethink your sponsorship of this bill.
I ask that these comments be placed in the committee record.
Sincerely,
Gary Newman
